Spotlight: Natalie Noble

Hello! Names Natalie Noble and I ride for S&M and Alienation and I have been riding for 3 years.

I have always been interested in BMX since I was little, but I didn't start riding till I was 18. Being to shy/scared, I didn't get to start riding until later. After high school, I decided to get a bike and asked a friend I recently met to teach me. He was for it and the rest is history!

When did you start getting noticed?
I had some photos up on the GOODS BMX website and S&M noticed me. I went to Interbike last year and met Rob Morgan from Alienation and he put me on the team!

"Do you workout on the side?" - Katrina Hirsch
I do workout on the side occasionally. Jog when it's raining or can't ride. Stuff like that to stay active.

This seems to be a common question, but what are your thoughts on brakes?
I rode brakeless for about 2 and a half years and just recently put on brakes. I wanted to get into dirt more, so I put them on as a no excuse kind of thing. Not having brakes made me just go for things, but stopping when ever I like is something I enjoy too.

If you could go back 3 years, roughly when you started riding, what advice would you give yourself?
Don't think you are only going to ride “street/park” or “dirt”. You never know and your opinions changed. I never thought I would put pegs on or care to ride dirt, but now that I look at my bike, I put brakes on to push myself to ride more dirt, and pegs are on and worn.

Are you interested in entering any contests that may be coming up - or you a contest type of person?
I'm not much of a contest person. Maybe in the future, you never know!

“What do you do on days you get your period, and/or stomach cramps, especially if those are days you ride?" – Anonymous
Hahah! I guess if you are curious, you are curious. I just pop some Advil and go about my day. Not going to let that ruin my sesh!

What are the first few tricks/skills you should learn if you’re new to riding park/street
The basics. Don't over look the simple things like manualing and bunny hops. Can't even call them simple because they aren't. Two things I never thought in the beginning I would have so much trouble with. Others make it look easy.

"How tough is it being a girl riding BMX with the boys?" - Jonah from South Africa
It can get tough. Starting out, guys would look at me weird or be like, “why are you here.” Get vibed out, but when they get to know you and you get to know them, things all change.

Guys can be pretty rough with the criticism sometimes, but how do you feel when girls start criticizing each other?
I don't feel all criticism is bad. You can give constructive criticism. From girl to girl I feel if you mean well and are trying to help one another I don't see the big deal. If you are trying to be rude or discouraging then that's just a shame.
